HOLY SH*T!: I'm baaacckk!!

Seems I was on hiatus! Seems I was missed! It's back to school people!

After a bit of a bumpy summer, self reflection and some unwanted character building blah blah blah's I am back! I hope to truly not flake out this time and be able to provide constant entertainment during the workday and of course free pizza every friday!

What I Learned on My Summer Vacation
by Kaelea Ann Sim

1. Fire Island is my prom queen!
2. Communication is everything, it's true and it's hard.
3. Insects are waterproof and do not die when they get wet. (I have been under the assumption since grade school bugs disintegrate when water is applied.)
4. Eggs in Purgatory (Shakshuka) are good for my allergies.
5. I like to run, I like it so much I ran 162 miles.
6. Libations aren't as fun as they used to be i.e. I am too old for this shit.
7. Apparently I really like overrated/underrated book series. (H-pot, Twilights, VC Andrews, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo)
8. I had to destroy the last books of Twilight and VC Andrews they were so bad.
9. More accepting of GASP! CHANGE!
10. I am apart of a couple, but I am also an individual and so is my mate.
11. I like having people over for dinner.
12. There are a lot of blogs out there that only feature the following: pensive staged photography, cupcakes and weddings that look like children's birthday parties. WTF. And of course TMI, some things should remain sacred people!!
13. I like to turn on Paula Deen, Giada, Man vs Food or Mario Batali and cook all day in my kitchen on Sundays.
14. I don't care as much about fashion as I care about the process and how we got to the finished idea.
15. If you are unsure, always ask questions!!!
16. Count your blessings!
17. Oh who am I kidding? I learned way more than all that! BAH!

Here is a RARE child sighting on TRM. Meet KK and CC. Ahem, I mean Princess of the Peacocks and the Wicked Witch of the Midwest. It's almost Halloween, time to make sure your costume looks kickass.

Goodsh*t: Pimp My Ride

Pimp My Ride

by Jennifer L. Knox.

Probability, like time, is its own dimension.
The ’86 Chevy Suburban laced by rust,
pocked with bird poop, antenna wiggling
in its Bondo-clogged hole is only one way
the story begins. In another, we never
bought the blue behemoth—we bought
a ’63 Oldsmobile from a lady named Dolores.
In another, Dolores drove into a tree before we
were ever even born; in another, we owned a house
with a garage that kept the rain off, the rust out,
and the paint nice; in another, it was all mine,
we’d never met; in another, yours and someone else’s.
Likewise after the ride is pimped—metallic flames
in red and pink unzipping across its sparkly black
body, blitz of chrome, titanium woofers, enough
silver satin inside to line nine caskets—this
is only one story: another’s bright white
and blinds like an elephant made of sunspots;
another’s plantain-green and full of gold;
another’s purple with a sink in the back,
where we’re arguing; in the back of another, high
and high-fiving; in another, going at it
like two teens made of monster truck tires.
As they say, if you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere, but I say let's up the ante! If you can make it in The New Yorker magazine you can make it anywhere! To my dear friend Jennifer L. Knox, you're the shit and this was so very much deserved! Congratulations!!!!!!! (And enjoy some wonderful covers from years past while you're at it! Can you spot the Saul Steinberg??)

Goodsh*t: V.C. Andrews

Oh hello (looks down at floor guiltily), I have been seriously slacking, no excuses, but really I have been running so much I haven't had a lot of brilliant ideas as of late, until now! The summer is almost here and I am lucky enough to work for a company who has always bestowed upon us the coveted "Summer Hours"! Generally, this involves longer work days Monday-Thursday and a half day on Friday to get ahead of the crazy NYC traffic in case you are traveling. But this year we get the WHOLE Friday off! HOORAY! So in honor of my new found freedom, I figured I better have some good summer reads on hand. Of course I went back to my older sister's stash when she was in junior high, the infamous Dollanganger series! The design nerd in me totally had a say in picking these and while I did not quite understand the content at the time my sister had them (uh, seriously, BARF!) I always LOVED the covers!

Awesome covers, trashy stories!

HELLO SUMMER!

Goodsh*t: WHOOSH!

Since my better half is having a rather militant intense semester (uh, I am looking at YOU, Head of the Department of Arch!) I decided instead of being sad that I only get to see The Foo maybe once a week that I would dust off my shoes and start giving exercise in general a go. ENDORPHINS PEOPLE! ENDORPHINS! I started training with a friend who is doing a triathalon in July, just for fun. Coincidentally another friend then offered me a little running spot in her group to conquer the Brooklyn Half-Marathon in May! I am very excited and I am in week 4 of training, and I am actually starting to keep the pace! So of course I need gear to track myself so I went out today and bought the nike+ sportband! It tracks your distance, time, calories etc, and the face is actually a USB so you can hook up to Nike online and track all your runs! So far I am down to 9 minutes per mile! Wish me luck!

Goodsh*t: Musical Earmuffs

It's 16 degrees out and my headphones suck. Killing two birds with one stone.

Goodsh*t: Coralie Bickford-Smith

OH. MY. GAWD. Jane Austen? Check. Oscar Wilde? Check. Louisa May Alcott? Check. All swaddled in colorful linen bounded pattern? Check. Christmas present to myself? Check. Why I didn't see this much earlier? Slap on the wrist. Penguin has done it again.

PS
Here's a sweet little interview with the designer Coralie Bickford-Smith. Oh she's good, really really good. Also the first set is on amazon, but for whatever reason Madame Bovary and Crime and Punishment are not available yet. Not sure if the 2nd set has been released.

PPS
I hope you are all enjoying the holidays and what-not! See you in 2010!

Holy Sh*t: Shameless Attempt in Re-Gaining Readership with Nudity...

What? I know I can regain you all with my feminine wiles and I am desperate as I have been so busy I haven't blogged in a very long time, so I thought I would tempt you all with a flash of my goods. (These are just my internet boobs. My real ones are much bigger.)

Goodsh*t: Getting to Do What We Do Best...

My dear friend Alexa who made the move to Berlin from NYC, shot a story about German coal-burning plants that has put a lot of small towns in Germany in peril and in protest. This is her first assignment shot for the Wall Street Journal. WELL DONE.

PS
Read her blog here it rules: Alexa's photo blog.

Good Sh*t: Opinions, Everyone's Got'em!

I like the internet and I love expressing my opinions, but I don't take things too seriously because a lot of banter and jokes and what-not can be severely misinterpreted by a mere click of the mouse! I prefer "IRL" (in real life) as they say. My twitter, my yelp, my blog are just little tidbits of things that cross my mind and I don't post anything for anyone but myself unless otherwise noted. I say more power to you (and thank you of course!) if you actually enjoy reading what I post and you understand my sense of humor! But why waste energy on posting something nasty because you don't like my yelp reviews, my blog etc? To "FUCK YOU" who wasted at least 10 minutes of their precious time reading some of my yelp reviews, then posting some kind of nasty here at 12:13am from NYC area, if you're going to insult me, AT LEAST get your grammar AND terminology correct! I don't fancy myself much as a garden tool, but hey, opinions, everyone's got'em!

Kisses!

PS
I think I will move the blog soon to a better interface so I can have larger viewing formats, if you are having a hard time reading the pics, just click on them for a better view!

Holy Sh*t! Everything Has Fangs!

Vampire - Edvard Munch
Saturn Devouring One of His Sons - Francisco de Goya

Cannibals Preparing Their Victims - Francisco de Goya

Even me. I been drinkin' the kool-aid, I will admit it, but I am not about to about waste anyone's time on that, I think we all know how it ends. (Shhh, I am not done with book 4 yet!). Anyway, Halloween certainly is around the corner and nothing turns my crank like some good old (REALLY OLD) macabre paintings and the like. Enjoy! (Especially Goya, considered the last of the Old Masters, he gives me nightmares!)

PS Both Munch and Goya were both avid printmakers, kinda like someone else I know!

PPS I am off to the Brimfield Antique Show tomorrow to dig for vintage fabrics, dresses etc for work! Personally, I hope I find a kitchen table for myself!

Goodsh*t: Marblization!

I am obsessed with marbling after visiting my local Key Foods in Williamsburg. My check-out girlie had all her nails done in, yep, you guessed it! Did you ever make your own marblized paper? It's the bomb and did you know there are even patents on certain designs? Freaks! I foresee some tremendous inspriation from this technique.

HOT SH*T!: Another DAMN Birthday!

My workmates knocked it outta the park again this year for some office celebrations! A Gluten-Free Babycakes party with nail polishing to boot (I got every color in the rainbow! But shhh don't tell! The blues are my favorites!)! And since I am furthering into my 30's it's only appropriate to receive Prozac!

PS
All this kicky-assiness and my birthday isn't until Sunday. AWESOME.

Goodsh*t:Pyrrha

It's RARE that I find jewelry I really like. RARE. And with my birthday on the horizon, I have been on the hunt for something to put around my neck with my initials. Oh pyrrha. Oh pyrrha. Seriously, I love the rawness that each piece takes on and I love that each design has it's own meaning.

I really like the gold, (can I borrow $700) but I think I might opt for the last one, I am a Leo after all...

Goodsh*t: All the Kool Kids Are Doing It...

You want want to dance? Check out ArtCrime (a la Theory Events) this Saturday, my girl Mel will be droppin her Spanish and dancin' on your face! DJs 100dbs and DJ Scallwag will be manning the decks along with DJ Balagan hitting up your earbuds with some Brazilian beats! Eye candy will be provided by NYC's finest and also a kickass team of Madrid street artists Trabajos en la Calle. I really want to go but I got a baby shower to host. I really want my pants on a wall someday too.
