Goodsh*t: I Scream

The Royal Me © 2006

The Royal Me © 2007

Megan Price aka Mr. PS © 2006

A few folks here and there have asked to see what I do at work, so I thought I would share a few things from here on out. I can't share a lot of things I do because the clothing I do designs for has to hit the floors before I can release my ideas! You know, that binding contractual type of stuff. Anyway, while perusing one of my favorite blogs for me, for you I ran across MrPS (Megan Price) and fell into some sugar coated lust with her self screened totes. Like I need anymore bags, but I digress, it had ice cream all over it and well how can I not welcome summer with a little ice cream? I. Scream.

PS
I did those 2 treats for some girlie girl tees.
The first one was done in pen and tracing paper (heavenly textures!) and the second was some full on watercolor!

PPS
Unfortunately ice cream kills my tummy (lactose), but luckily I am a coconut JUNKIE and have been enjoying Purely Decadent's Mint Chocolate Chip. HOLY COCONUTS! It's GOOD!

Goodsh*t: Austin, Texas

Before I was a New Yorker, I was a Texan!
And I fully intend to get mah "twang" back!

Yawl check back with me now, ya hear? I will have extended my vocabulary in the meantime thought I would list a little Texan Terminology while I'mmatit:

Fixin' - (fix-in). About, when used with to, pronounced "tuh", as in "I'm fixin' tuh go to the game." Or, the whole of the side dishes included with a meal when made plural "fixins", as in "We're havin' turkey and all the fixins."

Big'o
- (big-oh). Big ol', big ole, or big old, as in, "That sure's a big'o truck."

Whole 'nuther - (hole-nuther). A whole other, an indicator of something altogether different, as in "That's a whole 'nuther can o' worms."

Kerr's lyte - (Coor's-Light) Beer. "How's 'bout nother round of Kerr's Lyte?"

Yawl - (You-All) the pronoun of the second person plural "Good to see yawl!"

And of course, a little Waylon and Willie and the boys:

And rest assured, we gonna Honky Tonk when I get back! YEEEEE-HAAAAAW!

Goodsh*t: Technicolor Dream Spring

These started out as drawings for a shirt or something. These are old. (The green one was inspired by some sheets I had as a kid. I hated them at the time, but now I wish I still had them!) I liked them so well I threw them into illustrator and pumped them full of color. Happy Spring! Can we have some hot weather now?

Holy Sh*t!: The Counterpart

I have a boyfriend. He's rad. My friends even think so. WOW! But I do get a lot of questions as to how I met such fine fella in probably one of the most difficult cities to have a solid relatioship. Well I will tell you: I got him off the internet.

After a year hiatus off of dating and what-not, I took matters into my own hands and joined a few of those dating sites. From the advice of a good friend "It beats meeting dudes in bars", I just said f*ck it. I actually had a really good experience even though I wasn't necessarily comfortable with the idea, a romantic at heart. So I thought I would share my online profile and how I scored! ENJOY!

PS Once he lets me, I will share some of his artwork here and maybe hopefully his architecture and design.

More About What I Am Looking For:

I'm gonna be straight ya'll, if you don't ride bikes, you don't have a job and you can't open the door for me when we hang out, NEXT! No seriously. I work really hard and I play really hard and I would like to meet a dood who can keep the pace and who is clever, funny and confident and has a nice group of friends too. Friends are really important, I got lots of them and they are a big part of my life, so you should definitely be social and outgoing! Also, it would be nice too, if your psychotic ex has already been put away somewhere, I have had enough of the death threats already. And no, I don't want to be in a threesome because "it will be fun" and no, I don't want to snort rails off your ass "you sure?" and no, I don't think collecting clown figurines puts you in touch with your "feminine side". Shit's creepy.

I am also big fan of fashion, so if you are wearing (look down) no and I mean, yea, I know you can change them, but NO PLEATED PANTS. Coaching shorts, yes! I put effort into mah looks, and so should you! When I look mah best, I feel mah best!

PS Using a shoelace from an old pair of chucks and tying it around your head is not sharp-looking nor does it make you outrageous and bohemian in appearance. It's just a dirty string around your head.

Just sayin'

And don't hotlist me bitches! It makes me think you're hesitant! The winking creeps my shit out too!

But, at the end of the day, I just want someone to ride bikes with."

Goodsh*t: Spring Accoutrements!

So I picked up a few things, was given a few things... for spring.

1. Persol Shades, perhaps it's time to ditch the Ray-Bans?
2. Hermès Scarf by Anne Gavarni 1959 entitled "Champignons". Mine is actually in earthy greens. This was a gift and I should really scan it so the detail is not missed! This has been dubbed my "Old Lady Scarf". The nice thing about Hermès is they include all the details with each scarf so if you have one and lost the card and want to peep the artist try the Hermès Scarf Catalogue!
3. Rebecca Minkoff's Morning After Bag Mini. I buy a hand bag about 1-2 a year. I like things that will last a very long time so I don't mind fitting the bill. (And don't distress about the "mini" this bag is actually about 13"X 7" with lots of pockets and has a very nice print and patterny lining.) (PS. I never EVER pay full price. Let's just say I have gotten quite good at eBay!)
4. Furla Zip Wallet. My friend travels quite a bit and was recently in Italy. She's brought me back a wallet before, so it only made sense to get another! Patent leather magenta zippy wallet! Much like those Comme de Garcon lovelies!

Is it clear I pay more attention to the accoutrements than the actual outfit. Oh yea, you'll find me in jeans and my "Old Lady Scarf".

Goodsh*t: Typos

I make fonts with my own 2 hands every single day. (Instead of being lazy and posting other people's work I should partake in showboating my own... perhaps soon.) Anyway, I was very happy to find the Periodic Table of Typfaces as I was quite the chemist in high school (who would have guessed horrible at math, genius at chemisty!) and chose only to date chemists/scientists for a good year in college. Hey, we all have our things.

Moving on.

The next is a little ditty from Lure Design, "A Simple Pledge" if you will to NEVER EVER use the most shitastic fonts of all time: Hobo, Papyrus and my most HATED Comic Sans. We aren't permitted to use these at work for fear of getting fired. It's fonts like these that inspire me to design my own. Are you guilty? You know who you are.

Goodsh*t: All The Wrong People Have Self Esteem

If I remember anything at all at college, it was learning about Laurie Rosenwald. Her clever wit and graphic brain babies helped me ditch my initial exposure to graphic design (print, advertising) to do my own thing (print & pattern, print & pattern, using the computer as just a tool, not my as my canvas...). She's a GENIUS commercial artist, I am not. It's nice to have your hero help you to discover your strong points as well as your weak.

PS
It's ALWAYS been my aspiration to combine sassafras with good design and get paid for it. Laurie does it well. No wonder she's my shero.

PPS
Oh duh, the above is her newest publication.

Goodsh*t: Hedge Fun!

Oh please, of course I am going to speak in puns due to our economic state! Anyway, who doesn't like a girl in a hedge? I am ready for spring. And I want to be primary about it. (Plus I have been reading all these colorful dreamy novels of mystery and wonderment which have obviously influenced my hedge obsession: Alice Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll and The Monsters of Templeton by Lauren Groff.)

1. Lulu & The Teaspoon Shortage
2. Cherry Blossom Girl
3. Spaceman Clara!
4. Elinkan
5. Todd Baxter

PS
I totally splurged and got my Penguin Book mugs. I got "Traveller From Tokyo" by John Morris and "Man and Superman" by George Bernard Shaw. In pink and red. Dork.

Holy Sh*t!: Another Year! Another List!

Photo © 2008 The Royal Me
First off, I conquered all of last years resolutions, ideas, wants, needs etc. (Ok fine, maybe a little lacking in a few areas namely the art bits, but hey! I have an artsy job, that counts too, no?) So here are my top 10 for 2009:

1. Travel: My roots, the rurality of the East Coast, Turkey, Greece, Brazil, Mexico.
2. Art: Letterpress know-how, more printmaking, more painting, more photo'ing, more collaborating.
3. Learn: To sew (uh yea, I have a machine that is currently collecting a LOT of dust), to stop without the use of my brakes on my fixie, to be calm, more open.
4. Drink: Less.
5. Eat: Organic.
6. Buy: Camera.
7. Save: Thousands of dollars.
8. Thoughts: less thinking more doing.
9. Body: Spin class, bike to Nyack.
10. You: I will be nicer to...

And one to grow on:

11. Stick with accomplishing said accomplishments!

PS
Come see South Africa with me!

Goodsh*t: Swedish Hair Bow Culture

I got caught up all too recently with a bevy of fashion writing Swedish beauties! Meet Elin, Elsa and Sandra. I have been following them for a while now and I love their very demure and prep style. Bows (rosettes) are rampant, as are heeled oxfords, tights, primary colors and uber girlie party dresses (think Marc Jacobs, Miu Miu, Chloe and of course vintage! vintage! vintage!). Channeling of favorite storybook characters seem a constant too: Dorothy, Minnie Mouse and Marie Antoinette! I love reading all their blogs (of course you have to translate them via google) their photos are like porn to my eyes and I even pick up a few tips every time I visit their online minds. I have no idea if this style is the hot Swedish fetish at the moment, either way they are doing it well!

PS
Sandra is probably my most favorite, not only is she a pretty good photographer, but she inspired my most recent purchase:
